new years eve wedding in austin

New Year’s Eve dawned cold in Austin — unusually cold, like freezing cold. Winter in Texas is a toss-up; the week before was sweater-weather only. But in twenty-seven degrees, Holly and Matt bundled up a little extra (the bride added a fur stole over her wedding dress, handmade by her mother) and set off for the church to get married.

It was an intimate wedding; the ceremony took place at St. Austin’s near the UT campus, after the final Mass of 2017. Some of my favorite photos happened in between family formals and the actual ceremony, when everyone in the wedding party sat and visited before the official wedding festivities took place. After a joyful kiss, the couple recessed down the aisle, and the whole group went back to Holly and Matt’s house for dinner, party hats, and 2018 sunglasses. It was so cold it snowed — unheard of! — but everyone danced under heat lamps anyway. Congratulations, Holly and Matt! It was a great way to ring in the new year.
