Hello, Friday

Glimpses of my week -

We got our new stove so I’ve been making as many things that require a frying pan as possible — including eggs and a protein oat pancake with berries (nomnom)! – This week was the 2-year anniversary of picking up our kitties, so I thought I’d take a photo of fat Scout, who is a Chubby McChubberson – as I mentioned earlier this week, I did a project with my friends Eran and Lori, and Eran took this photo of me lookin’ all professional – my new Kindle case is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE AND AMAZING!! I’d been using an old knitted cap to house my Kindle for a while, since this case came from an Etsy seller in Thailand, so the create time + ship time was about a month! SOOO worth it, though! I get so happy looking at my little Totoro poking out of my bag.

On my nails: China Glaze’s “Stone Cold” (a matte charcoal grey/black from the Hunger Games collection)… I was really disappointed in this formula; after a few days, even with a matte topcoat (Essie’s Matte About You) it chipped like crazy. As you can see, I Frankenstein’d my thumbs a bit (first photo: Designer… de better from OPI’s Muppet). I took off Stone Cold, let my nails breathe for a day, then applied OPI’s “A Oui Bit of Red.”

Diana & Michael | DIY Crafty Wedding at Mercury Hall | Austin

mercury hall bride groom portrait

How do I even begin? Diana and Michael’s wedding day was beautiful: there was some rain in the morning for good luck, and then wonderful overcast skies graced us for the rest of the day. For April in Texas, it was amazingly comfortable. And in the end, people went inside of the lovely Mercury Hall for refreshments, cake, and taking photos in the photobooth, but spent most of their time dancing under lanterns and string lights on the lawn. It was laid-back, it was fun, it was full of Austin Beerworks‘ beer and Diana’s hand-crafted details… In short, it was amazing seeing these two people that I’ve known for years get married and celebrate in a way that absolutely reflected their personalities.

Here are just a few of my favorite photos from Diana and Michael’s wedding.

Hello, Friday

I think I should just rename “Hello, Friday” to “Nail Polish Friday” or something… seriously, my addiction is getting to be pretty bad. Last week I went out to buy new thank-you cards, and next to the paper shop was a little cosmetics shop. I ended up scouring the bottom rack for the discontinued polishes. (I might have a problem, but I’m not totally insane.) I scored a few awesome OPI colors on sale because they aren’t being made anymore.

No more nail polish! Not until I’ve actually used every color I have already. I’m just glad that my spending habits happen to be for something relatively inexpensive like nail polish, instead of shoes ;)

On my hands: China Glaze’s “Fast Track” from the Hunger Games collection. I lovelovelove this color. I’m thinking of stocking up on a lifetime supply of bottles of this and “Dress Me Up,” because I don’t want to find myself without those two shades when CG discontinues them! OPI colors are: “I Want to Be A-Lone Star” (pearly grey, from the Texas collection); “Divine Swine” from the Muppet collection; “Sparrow Me the Drama” by the Pirates of the Caribbean collection; “I Juggle Men” (a sparkly topcoat); “Stranger Tides” (again, Pirates); and “Animal-istic.” I don’t know what I was thinking when I picked out “Sparrow Me” because the shade is far too cool for my skin tone!

Happy Friday!

mike - The Pirates title made me laugh. And yay Friday!

Christy - YES! That color on you is fabulous! Make sure you have a lifetime supply! ;-) Also – you really could rename this nail polish Friday. :) haha And you could experiment and do new fun things with your nails sometimes and show us how! Or just show us all the pretty colors you use. :) Love it! :) (And yes, there are worse things to be addicted to than nail polish – at least it’s under $10!) :)

Emilia Jane - Oh I love that color!!!

Emily - Love this! And I have been looking for Sparrow Me EVERYWHERE! So, if you don’t want it, I’ll totally buy it off you!

Liz Kogan - NOOOOOOO!!!!!! They’re discontinuing “I Want to Be A-Lone Star”?!?!?!?! That’s my new fav color. I’ve been wearing it since it came out and it’s so versatile. I love wearing it at the tip to french manicures b/c it’s understated but awesome.. :-(

On a different note… love that you’re addicted to nail polish and I envy your collection.

Elissa - Emily, it’s yours. I’ll contact you :)
Liz, these So-and-So collections are always for a limited time. I went in to find Mermaid’s Tears from the Pirates Collection and was told that they were out because it was a discontinued color. Maybe you can still find a few copies online somewhere!?

LaurenF - I too have a nail polish addiction, but I try to only buy inexpensive ones ($3-$4 is my limit). For Christmas, my husband got me the Sephora by OPI Glimmer Wonderland set, which has 18 mini bottles of polish. Best. present. ever. He thought that it would end my addiction, though, but he was sadly mistaken.

By the way, a good place to find marked-down polishes is Big Lots. The last couple of times I’ve been there, they’ve had Revlon polishes (which I think are really good) for $2 or so.

Elissa - Lauren – It’s true! The more I get, the more I want!! Thank you for the tip on Big Lots :)
