Meredith & Nic | Intimate Lake Wedding

bride groom green composition

Dear friends:

This is a story about a relationship. Not just about Meredith and Nic, who were married in a beautiful and intimate handfasting ceremony on the edge of Bobs Lake, but about Meredith and me.

See, when I was in high school I was a typical Millennium teenager. I went on the internet, I created my own websites writing HTML from scratch, and I shared my poetry and artwork digitally. Meredith (a much more talented teenage writer) and I somehow found one another via our websites and became friends.

It’s been ten years since we met, and we’ve kept in touch through the power of the internet. She has been cheering for me and my business since I decided to start shooting weddings professionally, and has listened to my highs and lows as I discover new things about myself as Elissa R Photography has grown. So when she asked me to come to Canada for her own wedding, I was amazed and thrilled. Of course, I said yes.

Labour Day weekend, I flew to Ontario to meet her in person for the first time. And to photograph her wedding.

It was amazing.intimate cottage wedding photography

When I met her for the first time, she was holding a bag of bananas and a package of Smarties for me (potassium and chocolate — true love!). She was composed but I admit I squealed a bit.

Her family (old and new) took care of me. They drove me to the wedding site, they made sure I was comfortable, and they were so friendly.

The cottage — and the lake — were gorgeous. The wedding day was cloudy and chilly and beautiful.

There were so many amazing details. Meredith’s parents had folded a thousand origami cranes in preparation for the wedding. A true labor of love. Nic’s sister, Mum, cousin, and godmother orchestrated the rehearsal brunch. Nic’s sister Cindy tested lemonade recipes the entire summer and picked six (delicious) winners for the wedding for the lemonade bar. Meredith’s mom baked a three-tier cake, the topmost of which was gluten-free and vegan-friendly red velvet. The cottage on the lake belongs to Nic’s family and they made sure everything was running smoothly and looking beautiful.

It was my first time meeting Nic as well. It was obvious after knowing him for two minutes that he was crazy for Meredith. CRAZY. I’m so glad Meredith met such a wonderful guy.

After a small civil ceremony in the morning, the couple paddled in to the wedding site from the lake and a small group of guests stood in a circle to watch Meredith and Nic say their vows.

Some people just touch you and stay with you, and that’s the type of people Meredith and Nic are. I’m so honored to have been a part of this wedding and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the wedding for their warmth and joy.
